This spice has a flavor close to Mack Khen.
This strange liana is a well-known spice of the Lao people of Luang Prabang. The sakhane is a spice for specific use and limited to some recipes like the O lam. The sakhane has the appearance of a small tree branch with a greyish bark and rough appearance to the touch. The heart of the liana is a light beige color when freshly cut. The sakhane wood is soft and easily split with a knife into quarters.
It gives off a spicy smell reminiscent of Sichuan pepper, which it has almost the same taste.
